IndyCar: One-Car team poised to slay the giants

It was back on March 23rd of this year that I wrote the following passage in my pre-season article for Drafting the Circuits. “While Graham Rahal surprised many by having the fastest Honda in pre-season testing, I believe that the team will still struggle in 2015. I could be wrong, the younger Rahal had some quick glimpses of the front of the field in 2014, but not enough for a Championship run.” Now, a little more than four months later, the one statement that rings most true in that paragraphRead More
As I’m watching the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from New Hampshire Motor Speedway, I realize that Kyle Busch is a man on a mission. He made all the right moves and took his third race win on the season. Only Jimmie Johnson has more wins in 2015 at this point. The younger Busch brother, who hails from Las Vegas, is pulling out all of the stops in order to earn a spot in NASCAR’s “playoff” system, The Chase for the Championship. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver missed the first elevenRead More
The Verizon IndyCar Series travels to Canada this weekend for the Honda Indy Toronto, round 10 of the sixteen race schedule. With the second half of the season underway, and the title fight heating up, its an appropriate time to examine some of the stories circulating around the series. The Good A Competitive Field:  The nine races run thus far have produced seven different winners from six different teams. Among those were two first-time winners in the Series, Josef Newgarden and Carlos Munoz. That total looks to increase as driversRead More

IndyCar in Depth: Scott Dixon’s Texas win

Back in April, I was engaged in a round table conversation with some of my fellow motorsports journalists discussing the Grand Prix of Long Beach. It was Joey Barnes of Tribute Racing who made the comment, “There’s no such thing as an exciting win by Scott Dixon.” I pondered that statement for a moment, and then replied. “I guess I’d have to agree. Dixon always makes it look too easy, he reminds me of the Professor, Alain Prost in that respect.” On Saturday night at the Texas Motor Speedway, ScottRead More

IndyCar Dual in Detroit Preview

Fresh off of an exciting Indianapolis 500, the stars and cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series have arrived in Detroit, Michigan for a double-header weekend: The Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans. Held in the birthplace of American automobile manufacturing, the event itself has an on-and-off history and a checkered past. Many drivers, past and present, have a love-hate relationship with Detroit. he first incarnation of the Detroit Grand Prix was held in 1982 as a Formula One race. A temporary street course was built in theRead More
The Month of May has arrived in full force as the drivers of the Verizon IndyCar Series are logging thousands of practice laps in preparation for qualifying this weekend. Every running of the Indianapolis 500 generates compelling and memorable stories that become a part of Brickyard folklore. Honda’s saving grace

This past weekend at the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis for the Verizon IndyCar Series, we saw Chevrolet cars dominate practice, dominate qualifying and take a convincing win. Aside from the rain-drenched non-race at NOLA, that’s pretty much been the story of the season thus far. Indications are that Honda will close the gap on the oval track events, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are five more street or road courses remaining on the schedule. Some of the Honda drivers have been more vocal than othersRead More
The Verizon IndyCar Series had a rough start to its 2015 season. The first two races were forgettable, to put it kindly.  A nice, if somewhat uneventful, weekend at Long Beach gave a glimmer of hope. With the Month of May looming, the Series entered Barber Motorsports Park for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, needing to pull off a great event. Barber delivered in a big way. The storylines coming out of the beautiful circuit in suburban Birmingham are just what the doctor ordered. On this particular raceRead More

Dixon Makes Bold Statement with Long Beach Win

The Verizon IndyCar Series got exactly what they needed out of this past weekend in Southern California following a caution-fest at St. Petersburg, and a disastrous rain-drenched debut in New Orleans. The 41st Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach ran in ideal weather conditions and was relatively light on caution flags, drama, and carnage. While the pass for the lead was actually made on pit road, we saw some strong, aggressive, but clean, racing throughout the field.  . At the end of the day, it was Scott Dixon and theRead More
