When is enough, enough?

Justin Wilson is currently in a coma, in critical condition at Lehigh Valley hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Despite never quite getting the recognition he deserves from the public and the media, Justin Wilson is beloved within the IndyCar community, he is one of the, if not the nicest guy in the paddock. He is also one of the best; Wilson has the distinction of being the only active driver to have competed in Formula One, CART, Champ Car and the modern IndyCar series. Working on a deal for 2016 withRead More

Ryan Hunter-Reay took his second win of the 2015 season at the ABC Supply 500, but the celebration was muted by a serious accident involving his teammate, Justin Wilson. Josef Newgarden was the early man to beat after two aborted starts. The Tennessean made a bold 4-wide pass for the lead and preceded lead the opening stint. Following the first round of pitstops, the yellow flag flew for Jack Hawksworth’s car losing a wheel which brought the remainder of the field down pit road and cycling the lead back toRead More

Castroneves pips Pagenaud for Pocono Pole

Helio Castroneves captured his 45th IndyCar pole for Sunday’s ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway and leads an all Team Penske 1-2-3. Teammate Simon Pagenaud set the pace with a 220.485 two lap average that was just a scant .1 mph clear of Will Power. Charlie Kimball initially laid down the fastest warmup lap of the day. A fast warmup lap would lead to disaster as Kimball lost it in turn 3 and hit the outside wall head on and briefly went airborne. The rear of the #83 Chevrolet grazedRead More
Simona de Silvestro will lead an all-female wildcard entry in October’s Bathurst 1000. The IndyCar veteran will be partnered with V8 Supercars Dunlop Series standout Renee Gracie to drive a third entry for Prodrive Racing Australia, who fields entries for current V8 Supercars points leader Mark Winterbottom and defending Bathurst champ Chaz Mostert. “The Bathurst 1000 race was actually the first V8 supercars race that I ever watched and it looked amazing,” said de Silvestro. “The track looks great from what I have seen on TV. It looks really challengingRead More

Auto Club Speedway off for 2016

The Verizon IndyCar Series will not return to Auto Club Speedway in 2016 after a 4-year run. According to a statement from the series, both sides were close to a deal for the race to return for the series finale, but could not agree on a start time for an east coast television audience. “There was a tremendous amount of effort put forth to keep Auto Club Speedway on the calendar. In the end, we could not identify a compromise for 2016 that was amicable for both parties,” said MarkRead More

IndyCar to return to Road America

The Verizon IndyCar Series will return to Road America, ending an eight year absence for American Open  Wheel Racing. The yet to be named race will be held on the weekend of June 24-26 2016 and will feature the entire Mazda Road to Indy ladder as well as the Pirelli World Challenge. Road America was a staple on the CART/Champ Car schedule from 1982-2007 and was not included in the schedule when Champ Car and the then named Indy Racing League merged in 2008. “We know how revered Road AmericaRead More
In one of the better publicity stunts in recent years, Marco Andretti took to the wheel of his Dallara-Honda Indycar to race MotoGP ace Dani Pedrosa around the IMS road course to create some buzz ahead of this weekend’s Red Bull Grand Prix. It’s the kind of head to head diehard racing fans and the general public can both get behind. Though a one lap demonstration only, both Andretti and Pedrosa gave it their all at least on the straights and clearly enjoyed seeing one another’s machinery on track. IRead More

IndyCar: One-Car team poised to slay the giants

It was back on March 23rd of this year that I wrote the following passage in my pre-season article for Drafting the Circuits. “While Graham Rahal surprised many by having the fastest Honda in pre-season testing, I believe that the team will still struggle in 2015. I could be wrong, the younger Rahal had some quick glimpses of the front of the field in 2014, but not enough for a Championship run.” Now, a little more than four months later, the one statement that rings most true in that paragraphRead More
Mikhail Aleshin will return to the Verizon IndyCar Series for the season ending GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sonoma Raceway for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. He will test for the team next week alongside Indy Lights standout Jack Harvey . Aleshin’s prior run for SPM was highlighted by a podium in Houston, but was cut one race short following a crash during practice for the season ending MavTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway. A 2015 return was ruled out due to United States sanctions against his sponsor, SMP Bank whichRead More
