Creed, Poole Pace Charlotte Truck Practices

By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Correspondent

CONCORD, N.C. – Familiar names topped the speed charts as Sheldon Creed and Brennan Poole were fastest in the two NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series practice sessions.

In the first practice session for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Creed’s No. 2 Chevrolet Accessories Chevrolet Silverado topped the charts with a speed of 181.561 mph. His 29.742 second lap edged out Todd Gilliland by 0.074 seconds.

“I feel pretty confident going into tonight,” Creed explained. “Pretty decent practice. We got better at the end of the second practice. The first practice it felt like we were fifth or sixth on speed. We were mocked up, that’s how we got the good time.

“Second practice, we went in the wrong direction at first, but did a long run at the end and it felt pretty good. Overall, I feel pretty good about what we have tonight. I feel like this is the best we’ve been in dirty air and traffic. You saw me and the 24 (Brett Moffitt) drive around each other to see what we had in dirty air for tonight.”

Ben Rhodes, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular Kyle Busch, and Joe Nemechek rounded out the top-five on the speed charts. Matt Crafton, Codie Rohrbaugh, Poole, Stewart Friesen, and Anthony Alfredo made up the rest of the top-10.

Defending series champion Brett Moffitt was 11th on the charts while points leader Grant Enfinger was 20th. Other notables were Harrison Burton in 12th, Austin Hill 14th, Johnny Sauter 15th, Ross Chastain 17th, Tyler Ankrum 19th, and Natalie Decker in 24th.

Hill had a 30-minute practice hold after his Hattori Racing Enterprises’ set-up scales were confiscated by NASCAR in opening day inspection Thursday.

In the second practice, Poole’s No. 30 Madvapes Toyota Tundra topped the charts with a 29,948 second, 180.313 mph lap. It is his first race as On Point Motorsports returns from a hiatus due to a lack of sponsorship.

Creed was 0.052 seconds behind Poole. Gilliland, Friesen, and Burton rounded out the top-five. Hill, Rohrbaugh, Enfinger, Ankrum, and Busch filled in the top-10.

Rhodes was 11th fastest while other notables included Crafton in 15th, Moffitt 16th, Sauter 20th, Chastain 21st, and Decker 24th.
