DeltaWing set to return for 2016 Rolex 24 at Daytona

Braselton, Ga.– The Claro/TracFone DeltaWing coupe will compete at the 2016 Rolex 24 at Daytona, the debut of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The DeltaWing Racing Cars team is looking forward to competing on the newly refurbished Daytona International Speedway where the coupe’s straight-line speed is highly advantageous.

As a result, the DeltaWing team will participate in the upcoming test, November 17-18, and The Roar before the Rolex 24, January 8-10, both at the Daytona track.

Drivers Katherine Legge and Andy Meyrick will take the DeltaWing coupe through its paces at the November test. The goal: Work on and fine tune the car’s set-up ahead of January’s ambitious undertaking, a podium. Since Petit Le Mans, the team has worked hard to get the car back to full health. The pace shown towards the end of last season combined with past performance at Daytona confirm that the DeltaWing can be competitive and is very much in with a chance.

Really happy to be testing at Daytona as we were very fast on this track last season. It’s a track that suits the DeltaWing very favorably being such a lightweight car with a relative lack of aero-drag compared to the other LMP cars. It’s always good to be testing in the off-season because it keeps us busy and give us a chance to keep our eye-in. The Florida weather will be an added bonus!

Andy Meyrick

I’m looking forward to being back with the team. We were in good form at Road Atlanta keeping pace with the leaders but unfortunately the weather let us down. Daytona is a great track for us as it suits the car well. More track miles will only help to improve our competitiveness and have the car well prepared for January.

Tim Keene

“First of all, it feels good to be going back to a race track again following the unfortunate circumstances due to the poor weather at the Petit race in October. And to be going back to Daytona makes it even better as we haven’t been back there since the race last January. Although we were dealing with issues with the new gearbox that ended our race much too early, we had the pace to run up front and contend for the lead, which was very encouraging. Having Kat and Andy back with us is refreshing, as they both have the most experience in the car and have tremendous speed. We will also have Catherine Crawford doing the engineering duties, as she did an outstanding job this past season and we’ve made some really positive gains with both mechanical and aero setups. We’re all really excited to get to the test and continue to work on reliability and performance of the DeltaWing coupe.”
