With a solid qualifying effort, the Claro/TracFone DeltaWing Racing Cars team will start seventh for tomorrow’s penultimate IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship event, part of the Lone Star Le Mans weekend at Circuit of the Americas.
Drivers Katherine Legge and Memo Rojas continued the progress the DeltaWing Coupe has made this season with an eye toward Petit Le Mans, the final race of the season at the team’s hometown track. But the task at hand today was putting the DeltaWing into a good starting position for tomorrow’s two-hour and 40-minute event, in what promises to be blistering Texas heat. Rojas took the wheel for qualifying and set quick time around the 3.41-mile circuit of 2:01.570.

“We’ve made gains since we unloaded and that’s always a positive. The track doesn’t suit the car as much as we’d like, but we’re making progress. We’re planning on two driver changes because of the heat, and trying something different, strategy-wise. We’re still faster than we were when the car debuted here two years ago and we’ve gotten faster all weekend.”
Memo Rojas
“The car has really improved in terms of balance and reliability; it feels very secure. The track doesn’t suit us as much as some of the other tracks, so we are struggling a bit on pace. The DeltaWing is very good in a straight line and in slow speed corners, more like we’ll see in two weeks at Road Atlanta. But we’ll try to make it up with good strategy and consistency tomorrow. We’ll do something different from everyone else and see where the chips fall.”
