DiBenedetto Survives to Score Top 10 Finish at Indianapolis

By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer

By staying out of trouble, Matt DiBenedetto snuck away from Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a Top 10 finish. DiBenedetto finished the Brantley Gilbert Big Machine 400 in the eighth position.

The biggest moment for DiBenedetto came on the first attempt for overtime. Coming to take the green flag on the restart, contact sent Trevor Bayne spinning in front of the field. Seven cars piled into the wreck, and yet DiBenedetto skirted through the carnage. When he emerged, he found himself inside the Top 10.

DiBenedetto was shocked to score Top 10s in two of NASCAR’s ‘Majors,’

“A top 10 in the Daytona 500 and a top 10 in the Brickyard 400 finishing eighth today. It’s crazy. It was a crazy day. It’s pretty unreal what we’ve been able to accomplish this year. I’m so proud. It’s not all me. My team are the ones that deserve the credit and I’m more happy for them than myself. I’ve worked so dang hard the old-school way to get here, countless late nights for these guys working, many sleepless nights in my career thinking it was over about 30 to 40 times and that’s not even an exaggeration, and to have these kind of races this year is just unbelievable. It’s been fun.”

It was not until the final laps of the race that DiBenedetto started climbing up the running order. He avoided five separate incidents that involved no less than 17 of his competitors.

This was just DiBenedetto’s second Top 10 of the season, and the third of his career. His other Top 10 this season came from in the Daytona 500. This was also just the second Top 10 finish in the history of the Archie St. Hilaire owned Go Fas Racing.

Now DiBenedetto, Hilaire, and the entire Go Fas Racing team will look to build on this momentum heading into next weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.
