General Electric will serve as the sponsor for Scott Dixon in the Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
The four-time Verizon IndyCar Series champion’s No. 9 Honda will feature branding from the Fairfield, Connecticut’s GE Light | LED line of products. The electronic corporation has served as an associate sponsor for CGR since 2012, sponsoring drivers Dario Franchitti and Sage Karam.
“With more than a century of engineering game-changing lighting products, we can appreciate the science and physics that go into each Indy car race,” said Daraius Patell, North America Consumer Lighting GM, General Electric. “That’s why we’re proud to represent Scott and Chip Ganassi Racing, and our team at GE Lighting will be cheering for a win in the season opener in St. Petersburg.”
NTT Data, who serves as a primary sponsor for teammate Tony Kanaan, will serve as an associate sponsor for Dixon. The deal for both sponsors is only for one race at the moment.
Dixon will be entering his 17th Indy car season and leads active drivers with 40 series wins to his credit along with his four championships. He has produced three second place finishes on the Streets of St. Petersburg, but it is one of only five tracks that he has not yet scored a victory.
“I can’t wait to get back to St. Petersburg and get this season going,” said Dixon. “We’ve had some big changes over the offseason including a manufacturer move to Honda, and I know our team is up for the challenge. GE has a long history with Ganassi over the years, and they are a partner that truly incorporates their technology into our race teams – you see it every time you walk into the race shops the crews work in. Having them on board for the No. 9 car with NTT DATA should make for a great combination to start off the year.”
