TORONTO — In a near-carbon copy of Friday afternoon practice, Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud led Saturday’s morning practice for the NTT IndyCar Series’s only Canadian visit, the Honda Indy Toronto.

A fastest lap of 59.3651 seconds around the 11 turn, 1.786 mile road course averaged to 108.306 mph. The 2016 NTT IndyCar Series champion was .0702 seconds faster than Chip Ganassi Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist who also was second fastest in Friday’s afternoon session.

Two incidents late in the session interrupted green flag running time. Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay found the tire barrier in Turn 8 with the left rear of his No. 28 DHL Honda. With under 10 minutes to go, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal also found the tire barrier, this time in Turn 1. INDYCAR gave the teams enough time for one additional timed lap but the results up front were unchanged.

Behind Pagenaud and Rosenqvist were Hunter-Reay, Santino Ferrucci and Colton Herta. Rosenqvist, Ferrucci and Herta make that three rookies in the top five with Marcus Ericsson in 11th.

Knockout qualifying is at 2:00 p.m. ET.
