Persistent Rain at Berlin Postpones ARCA Race Until August

By Brian Eberly, Contributing Writer

MARNE, Mich. — The forecast heading into Saturday’s ARCA Racing Series Primera Plastics 200 at Berlin Raceway was ominous and unfortunately it held true, as heavy and persistent rains forced the cancellation of the scheduled 200-lap event.

With overcast skies throughout the afternoon, teams were able to get on track for practice. But after 45 minutes of the scheduled 90-minute session, the skies opened up and rain halted on-track activity.

While the rain briefly subsided, it picked up again prior to qualifying and the field was set based upon practice speeds.

At 8:00 p.m. ET, ARCA personnel officially called the event and rescheduled the 200-lap event for Saturday, August 25.

After qualifying was cancelled, fifteen-year-old Carson Hocevar, from nearby Portage, Michigan, was awarded the General Tire Pole Award based upon his practice lap of 16.636 seconds (94.782 mph) in the No. 35 KBR Development Chevrolet. It was the first pole award for Hocevar in just his second series start.

Current championship leader Sheldon Creed qualified second in the No. 28 United Rentals Toyota.

Riley Herbst, Gus Dean, Chandler Smith, Christian Eckes, Zane Smith, Chase Purdy, Travis Braden, and Bret Holmes completed the top-ten.
