Green Savoree promotions announced today that the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will continue through the year 2020 as the city council has agreed to extend the license for the event.

The race has been moved up two weeks from its traditional date of the last weekend in March to the weekend of March 11-13. The race will remain the season opener.

It will retain the same weekend for the 2017-2018 runnings but it is unknown if the race will serve as the season opener.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to Mayor Rick Kriseman, members of City Council and all city staff for their support and approval of this extension,” said Kim Green, Owner, Chairman and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. “The City of St. Petersburg has a special place in the history of racing, and we look forward to running the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg here for years to come.”

St. Petersburg has served as the season opener since 2011 and has hosted Indy Car racing every year since 2003 with the exception of 2004.
