Toro Rosso Confirms Gasly, Hartley for Mexico

By Joey Barnes, Editor-in-Chief

Scuderia Toro Rosso revealed their lineup for the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix with Pierre Gasly returning to the cockpit alongside Brendon Hartley, who was kept on in favor of Daniil Kvyat.

The revolving wheel goes something like this:

Hartley, who currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship in the Porsche LMP1 program – which shuts down at the end of the season – came in for the United States Grand Prix to replace Gasly, who had a clash with the Super Formula season finale at Suzuka. Gasly was promoted at the Malaysian Grand Prix at the beginning of the month and replaced Daniil Kvyat.

Meanwhile, after the Japanese Grand Prix Carlos Sainz Jr. moved over to Renault, which left an opening to bring Kvyat back in the past weekend’s race at Circuit of the Americas, where he finished in the points for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix in May.

However, in a short release on Monday the team confirmed the return of Gasly for Mexico, with Hartley brought back for a second race.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Kvyat moving forward, as this is yet another setback for the Russian, who was demoted last season from senior team Red Bull Racing, in favor of Max Verstappen.
