By Frank Santoroski, Staff Writer While it has been speculated for some time, Dale Coyne and Pippa Mann have made it official. The Coyne team will enter Pippa Mann in a Honda-powered car for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Oil. The timing of the announcement coincides with the kickoff of the 2016 Pink #GetInvolved campaign, raising funds for Susan G. Komen. Mann will once again be behind the wheel of the familiar pink number 63 IndyCar as she sets the goal of raising $100,000 toRead More
By Frank Santoroski, Staff Writer As the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is making preparations for the historic 100th running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, it is a wonderful time to take a trip down memory lane and examine the rich history of this uniquely American event. Each of the 99 previous races has produced a winner that will forever have his name etched in motor racing history. 67 race winning drivers, and two relief drivers have their images on the Borg-Warner Trophy. There are, however, an untold number of heartbreakingRead More
By David Morgan, NASCAR Writer Talladega always is a mayhem filled race, with rookies and veterans alike not immune to the carnage that could await any of them at any point in the race. On Sunday afternoon in the GEICO 500, two of the four rookies entered in the race would come away with top-10 finishes, while the others wouldn’t be as fortunate. Chase Elliott started on pole and showed that he would be a force to be reckoned with for much of the race, putting his No. 24 ChevroletRead More
By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service TALLADEGA, Ala. – Taking control in the final three laps of Sunday’s wreck-filled GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, Brad Keselowski claimed his fourth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory at the 2.66-mile race track and solidified his spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Choosing the top lane for a restart on Lap 186 of 188, Keselowski powered his No. 2 Team Penske Ford past Kurt Busch with two laps left and crossed the finish line as a gaggle of cars wrecked behindRead More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor We knew Tony Stewart wouldn’t run the full distance in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, but we also knew if Stewart was going to have any shot of making it back into the top-30 in the point standings — which is part of the requirement needed for him to be in the Chase for the Sprint Cup — then his relief driver — Ty Dillon — would have to have a good day. Dillon delivered in a big way for the three-time NASCAR Sprint CupRead More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor The career resurgence for Trevor Bayne continues in 2016, as he had an incredible race in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Things have been looking up for Bayne heading into this week. He had recorded top-20 finishes at Las Vegas and California. Then a couple of weeks later in Texas, Bayne led 12 laps and was on his way to a top-10 finish, until his pit strategy was foiled by an untimely caution. Bayne would finish 15th that night. Two weeks ago in Bristol,Read More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor I think the career of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite restrictor plate car — Amelia — is officially over. The car, which was crashed hard in the season-opening Daytona 500, was repaired over the last few months by Earnhardt’s Hendrick Motorsports team and Sunday the car made it’s return to the track in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. However, on lap 50, Amelia did the same thing that it did in February. When Earnhardt was navigating traffic in front of and beside him, the car broke loose.Read More
By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service TALLADEGA, Ala. – Numerologists doubtless will have a field day with the front row for Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway (on FOX at 1 p.m. ET). Touring the 2.66-mile race track in 49.704 seconds (192.661 mph) during Saturday’s time trials, Chase Elliott put the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on the pole, making the 20-year-old rookie driver two-for-two at restrictor-plate superspeedways. In his first qualifying run as a full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Elliott won the pole for the season-opening Daytona 500.Read More
By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service TALLADEGA, Ala. – On his 41st birthday, Elliott Sadler got an unexpected present. When Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race ended under caution in overtime with the front-runners just short of the finish line, Sadler had the lead, after Joey Logano’s last-ditch attempt to block Sadler in the tri-oval ended with Logano’s No. 22 Team Penske Ford plowing nose-first into the outside wall. Brennan Poole got to the finish line first and thought he had won the race, until NASCAR officials reviewedRead More
By Josh Farmer, IndyCar Reporter Many local media outlets in Boston have reported that the innaugural Grand Prix of Boston powered by LogMeIn has reportedly been cancelled. John Casey, president of the Grand Prix of Boston, was quoted by the Boston Globe as saying negotiations with the city have proved to be futile. “The relationship between us and the city is not working,” Casey said . “The relationship is untenable.” The Globe also reported that the organizers are exploring hosting a race in another city in New England as a backup plan, although noRead More
