WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – AJ Allmendinger would like nothing better than a good, strong case of déjà vu. “Hopefully, we’re reliving last year,” Allmendinger said after putting his No. 47 JTG/Daugherty Chevrolet on the pole for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at The Glen (2 p.m. ET on NBCSN). Last year the road course ace barged into the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup by winning at Watkins Glen from the sixth starting position. On Saturday at the 2.45-mile road course, Allmendinger posted the only sub-69-second lap (1:08.993) to win the poleRead More

IndyCar to return to Road America

The Verizon IndyCar Series will return to Road America, ending an eight year absence for American Open  Wheel Racing. The yet to be named race will be held on the weekend of June 24-26 2016 and will feature the entire Mazda Road to Indy ladder as well as the Pirelli World Challenge. Road America was a staple on the CART/Champ Car schedule from 1982-2007 and was not included in the schedule when Champ Car and the then named Indy Racing League merged in 2008. “We know how revered Road AmericaRead More
In one of the better publicity stunts in recent years, Marco Andretti took to the wheel of his Dallara-Honda Indycar to race MotoGP ace Dani Pedrosa around the IMS road course to create some buzz ahead of this weekend’s Red Bull Grand Prix. It’s the kind of head to head diehard racing fans and the general public can both get behind. Though a one lap demonstration only, both Andretti and Pedrosa gave it their all at least on the straights and clearly enjoyed seeing one another’s machinery on track. IRead More

IndyCar: One-Car team poised to slay the giants

It was back on March 23rd of this year that I wrote the following passage in my pre-season article for Drafting the Circuits. “While Graham Rahal surprised many by having the fastest Honda in pre-season testing, I believe that the team will still struggle in 2015. I could be wrong, the younger Rahal had some quick glimpses of the front of the field in 2014, but not enough for a Championship run.” Now, a little more than four months later, the one statement that rings most true in that paragraphRead More
Mikhail Aleshin will return to the Verizon IndyCar Series for the season ending GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sonoma Raceway for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. He will test for the team next week alongside Indy Lights standout Jack Harvey . Aleshin’s prior run for SPM was highlighted by a podium in Houston, but was cut one race short following a crash during practice for the season ending MavTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway. A 2015 return was ruled out due to United States sanctions against his sponsor, SMP Bank whichRead More

PALMETTO, Fla. (August 4, 2015) – A hectic and successful weekend saw Team Pelfrey successfully contesting a total of eight races among three series at two different circuits. The Mazda Road to Indy visited the Mid-Ohio-Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, for two more rounds of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, in which Team Pelfrey’s Santi Urrutia earned his third win of the season, as well as three races counting toward the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda which saw Garth Rickards and Ayla Agren equalRead More
Gene Haas has revealed today that he is looking at a very short list for potential drivers of his new eponymous F1 outing and none of them are Alex Rossi. Despite rumors and fan hopes for an American in Formula One again, Haas said his short list is narrowed down to the trio of Jean-Eric Vergne, Esteban Gutierrez and Nico Hulkenberg. Haas is in no hurry to decide just yet, opting to wait on how the driver market shakes out, but drivers with recent F1 experience are what he isRead More
Hometown boy Graham Rahal kept his championship hopes alive with a perfectly strategised race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Rahal was looking to finish inside the top 5 as the race entered its final stages. Prior to that, the leader board was shuffled as a handful of yellow flags brought several drivers to the front. Scott Dixon got a jump on the field at the start and built up a big lead over the course of the opening stint. A curveball was thrown when the race’s second full courseRead More

Dixon dominates Mid-Ohio qualifying

LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 1, 2015) – Scott Dixon shattered a 16-year-old track record on the way to earning the Verizon P1 Award for Sunday’s 90-lap Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. This marks the fourth track record that has been broken during the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season, which in addition to Mid-Ohio includes events at St. Petersburg, Long Beach and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Dixon, who won at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2014 after starting at the rear of the 22-car grid, recorded a best lap ofRead More
