Wickens Brings Home a Podium in Toronto

By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer TORONTO — Verizon IndyCar Series rookie Robert Wickens has had a season to remember so far in 2018. Scoring a podium finish in his home country’s race only added to that as the No. 6 Lucas Oil Honda crossed the finish line third in Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto on the streets near Exhibition Place. Wickens started tenth alongside fellow Canadian and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports teammate James Hinchcliffe and moved to eighth on the start after passing Hinchcliffe and Jordan King. Wickens was one of the earliestRead More
By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer TORONTO — Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal and Alexander Rossi have all won for Honda on Verizon IndyCar Series street circuit races and the top three drivers in Friday’s opening practice session for the Honda Indy Toronto are looking to give Honda their first win in Toronto since 2013. Dixon was the last Honda driver to win north of the border in 2013 and starting second will certainly help the Chip Ganassi Racing driver’s charge and with Honda drivers leading every practice session before qualifying certainly givesRead More

Hinchcliffe and Wickens advanced to the second round of qualifying from their respective qualifying groups but each has had an interesting journey during this weekend. Friday IndyCar Musings: Toronto

By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer TORONTO — Friday has come and gone for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series’s annual visit north of the border for the Honda Indy Toronto and if the practice sheets are any indication, Honda will be tough to beat around the 1.786 mile street circuit. Honda-powered cars took the top six positions in the opening practice session and the top five positions in the second practice session with Scott Dixon leading both sessions. Will Power was the fastest Chevrolet in the first session, Spencer Pigot was theRead More

Honda Indy Toronto Preview

By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer TORONTO — The 2018 Honda Indy Toronto kicks off with Mazda Road to Indy practice ahead of Sunday’s race for the Verizon IndyCar Series and looking ahead, it figures to be a banner weekend. James Hinchcliffe is coming off of a win in the Iowa Corn 300 last week at Iowa Speedway but has some mixed odds heading into Toronto. Despite having two third place finishes on the streets near Exhibition Place, the 2016 Indianapolis 500 polesitter has not finished higher than sixth in any raceRead More

The team is looking to expand to a two car effort in 2019 and with Chaves already confirmed as being one driver, the team is looking for a teammate to partner Chaves and will be evaluating its options for the rest of the season. “At this point in the season, we are focusing all ourRead More
By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer NEWTON, Iowa — Ryan Hunter-Reay’s issues started early during Sunday’s Iowa Corn 300. The 2012 Verizon IndyCar Series champion had no radio to his pits so while the pit crew could communicate to Hunter-Reay, the reverse was not possible. Later on, Hunter-Reay had a major vibration on a particular set of tires which caused his last major issue of the day. “It was a high frequency vibration though the car and shortly after that I lost all the camber shims in the left rear,” said Hunter-Reay.Read More

INDYCAR Saturday Notebook: Iowa Corn 300

By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer NEWTON, Iowa — Two practice sessions, qualifying and some Indy Lights track time detailed Saturday’s action ahead of Sunday’s Iowa Corn 300 for the Verizon IndyCar Series. In the opening practice session, Josef Newgarden was fastest over Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alexander Rossi and Zach Veach. Team Penske and Andretti Autosport would be the dominant teams of the day. However, Matheus Leist was rather unlucky as he got loose coming through Turn 2 after completing 15 laps and spun, hitting the wall with the rear ofRead More
By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer NEWTON, Iowa — Ryan Hunter-Reay’s 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season has been mostly under the radar but the three time Iowa Corn 300 winner put the rest of the field on notice as he qualified third quickest for Sunday afternoon’s race at Iowa Speedway. The 2012 series champion qualified with a two-lap average of 180.681 mph around the .875 mile short oval to place Hunter-Reay behind the Team Penske duo of Will Power and Josef Newgarden. “I was hoping we had a shot for pole todayRead More
