By Luis Torres, Staff Writer A vision on what should be the most pivotal future in NASCAR history was finally realized Wednesday afternoon as NASCAR unveiled the Next Gen cars for the Cup Series that are set to debut in 2022. The unveil kicked off with one Cup driver per manufacturer pulling up to the stage, displaying its seventh generation car at full song. Naturally, the visualization was a sign that the old saying of “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” may ring true again. Defending Cup Series Chase ElliottRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Three years removed from one of the more recent heartbreaks in Indianapolis 500 history, Stefan Wilson is back for vengeance. Andretti Autosport confirmed Tuesday that he’ll pilot the No. 25 LOHLA SPORT Honda in the 105th Indianapolis 500. That brings up the car total to six cars for owner Michael Andretti. Michael stated in a press release that he’s excited to welcome Stefan back, but also the arrival of LOHLA SPORT. The company has been around since January and right out of the gate, it’sRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer There wasn’t a Texas-sized sweep for NTT IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon, who finished fourth in Sunday’s XPEL 375. Right out of the gate, it appeared Saturday’s race winner would have another dominant afternoon as he was in a league of his own early on. Dixon ended up leading a race-high 163 of 248 laps, but the second half painted a different tale. As a couple of determined racers in Graham Rahal and Pato O’Ward certainly made things difficult for the six-time champion. MostRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Pato O’Ward had his work cut out for during Saturday’s Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway, but excelled under pressure. After rolling off 11th due to the starting lineup being determined via entrant points, O’Ward ended the 212-lap event in third. On an evening all about the two New Zealanders (Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin) who finished ahead of him, O’Ward put on an encouraging run. This moved him up from 11th to fourth in points, trailing Dixon by 38 points heading into tomorrow’s XPELRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer The first of two NTT IndyCar Series doubleheaders will unfold this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. It also happens to be half of the four-race oval lineup, which sparks some buzz due to it’s waning quantity of races. At the same time, oval racing provides tremendous excitement and changes among the 24-car grid. This weekend will mark the oval debut of Scott McLaughlin, Conor Daly’s return to Carlin, and the return of Brazilians Tony Kanaan and Pietro Fittipaldi. McLaughlin is excited to experience oval racingRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell had a stellar third-place result in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Although the day was owned by the big three teams of Penske, Gibbs and Hendrick, McDowell held his own tremendously. As seen with his stage finishes of eighth and third, the Front Row Motorsports veteran had a fast machine. When the race came down to overtime, McDowell had a shot of getting another victory this year. Like at Daytona, he had to deal with a couple Ford driversRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Alexander Rossi endured a tough series of events in a matter of a lap in Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The hell ended in an incident with Graham Rahal in Turns 4-5 on Lap 37, negatively impacting their race. Running in second, Rossi came to pit road for red compounds after starting the race with primary blacks. A slow right rear tire change slowed the stop down a bit and exited out in 13th, ahead of Rahal. Rahal was looking to pass RossiRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer From crashing out on the opening lap at Barber to finishing second at St. Petersburg, it was a strong rebound for Josef Newgarden. The same can be said about Colton Herta, who ended up winning Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg by 2.4933 seconds. Ironically, it was Herta who crashed into Newgarden last Sunday, resulting on their tough start to their seasons. Now with each getting a top-two result, Newgarden was satisfied putting themselves on the board. “Congrats to Colton. Great rebound for bothRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Qualifying is crucial for an IndyCar driver’s chances of delivering an outstanding result. More so in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as indicated by outside pole sitter Jack Harvey. Clocking in at 01:00.5709, Harvey wasn’t able to capture that elusive NTT P1 Pole Award during Saturday’s qualifying. Instead, it was his pseudo-teammate Colton Herta (01:00.3210) who went 0.2499 seconds quicker in the Firestone Fast Six. Nonetheless, Harvey was thrilled about starting on the front row for the third time of his career. “IRead More
By Luis Torres, Staff Writer Josef Newgarden’s quest for a St. Pete three-peat starts off on a positive note, topping Friday’s practice session. Newgarden was one of seven drivers who had a time below 61 seconds with him setting time of 1:00.803. The two-time IndyCar champion made it clear that his Lap 1 error from Barber Motorsports Park is the least of his concerns. With a strong start to his weekend, can you blame him? “It’s so early. As far as points go, it’s not ideal. Obviously in a perfectRead More
