Two time defending Pro Mazda champions Team Pelfrey have announced that Carlos Cunha will be their second driver in the teams’ Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires arsenal for 2017.
Cunha has raced for eight years across Europe and South America, particularly in his native Brazil where he did Brazillian F3. He will join TJ Fischer and possibly a third driver in the team.
“I am super excited to be with Team Pelfrey,” stated the enthused Cunha.
“They have the structure for me to further develop my career at this new stage in the United States. My only experience was in the Brazilian and European motorsport arena, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out how well developed the Mazda Road to Indy system is. I am really looking forward to getting the season started in St Petersburg.”
Team Pelfrey won the Pro Mazda title in 2015 with Santiago Urrutia and 2016 with Aaron Telitz. The Pro Mazda season starts with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg weekend March 10-12.
