US Grand Prix: Saturday Soaking

Currently the F1 community is in a holding pattern. Sitting, waiting on the deluge from Hurricane Patricia to either drown the Lone Star state or mercifully lessen just enough to squeak in qualifying. The prognosis isn’t encouraging. They just brought in the marshals and as I type we just received confirmation of yet another 30 minute rain delay. Everyone is making the best of it. The fans, God bless them are all still here, cheering, dancing, waving banners for the cameras. Two Sauber crew members rode up the pit laneRead More
Lewis Hamilton claimed top spot in final practice for the US Grand Prix with an impressive lap in extremely wet conditions to eclipse second-placed Sebastian Vettel by nine tenths of a second at a storm-lashed Circuit of the Americas. After Friday afternoon’s practice session was cancelled due to bad weather, the rain also threatened to disrupt Saturday’s running, but despite heavy rain the conditions were deemed driveable and FP3 went ahead as planned. With worse weather expected in the afternoon, the session was always going to be busy, with driversRead More
Nico Rosberg topped the opening practice session for the US Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver finished 1.2 seconds clear of Red Bull Racing’s Daniil Kvyat in damp conditions at the Circuit of the Americas. The Russian’s Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was third, while Drivers’ Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who can wrap up a third title this weekend, was fifth behind Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz. Bad weather had been forecast for the Austin area overnight and although the rain showers had abated by the start of the weekend’s opening 90-minuteRead More
Following a last lap collision of the Russian Grand Prix that saw Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas wreck while battling for a podium, the 2007 Formula One champion maintained his stance on the racing incident during a press conference leading up to the United States Grand Prix. “Well it hasn’t changed,” said Raikkonen. “Obviously there were some discussions and penalties given to me, but I would still do it tomorrow again, that doesn’t change the story. Unfortunately, we came together in the end and we both lost a bit, butRead More

Kansas City, Kan. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. used to own Talladega Superspeedway. After a disappointing run at Kansas Speedway in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400, he’ll need to re-ascend to the throne next Sunday if he is to keep his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship hopes intact. Can do, Earnhardt, who finished 21st at Kansas and two laps off the pace at Kansas, said after exiting his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on pit road. “Don’t count us out,” he said. “We got confidence and we definitely have the car to do it…andRead More
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Block me once, and I’ll cut you some slack. Block me twice — and it’s “Gotcha.” That, in essence, was the conversation on Joey Logano’s team radio after Logano spun race leader Matt Kenseth in Turn 1 with less than five laps left in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Logano went on to win the race after a green-white-checkered-flag restart that sent the race two laps past its scheduled distance of 267 laps. The driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford has monopolizedRead More

Romain Grosjean: Big in America

Crash! Bang! Wallop! That was quite a big smash in Sochi – how are you feeling? I’m feeling pretty good, especially considering the force of the impact; I broke my seat! It was my biggest impact for quite a while and when I knew I was going to hit the wall I took my hands off the wheel, closed my eyes and braced myself. It’s a testament to all the safety inherent in the car and the other safety devices, so a little thank you to Bell, HANS, Enstone, the circuit, the FIA and the marshals and medical personnel. Four years on

October 16, 2011, a day that will live in infamy in INDYCAR racing. The day we lost one of the greatest men and one of the greatest drivers to ever slide into a racecar all way too soon, Dan Wheldon. That sunny Nevada day had began with such hype. A championship was to be decided between Dario Franchitti and Will Power, the series was beginning a new era with new cars and engine manufactures for the next season and Wheldon’s career was set for a rejuvenation as he had signedRead More
