Earlier this season, it was announced that Matt Kenseth’s current majority primary sponsor — Dollar General — would not return as for the 2017 season. This led many to wonder if the 2003 Sprint Cup Series champion would find enough sponsorship to keep the No. 20 Toyota competitive all of next year.
Thursday, DEWALT Tools ended that speculation and announced that they will be expanding their role as a sponsor with Kenseth and the Joe Gibbs Racing team as a whole.
DEWALT will add four races to their 2016 slate as the primary sponsor, all four races will be in the Chase (Chicago, Dover, Kansas and Homestead).
According to a press release, DEWALT will be the majority primary sponsor for Kenseth in the No. 20 Toyota Camry next season, which means they should be on the car at least half of the year. In all of the races that DEWALT doesn’t appear on the hood, they will also serve as an associate sponsor on the No. 20 machine.
“I think it’s great that we will be able to see the DEWALT Toyota on track this year for additional races in both the Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series, as well as knowing that DEWALT will be on our No. 20 Camry for the majority of our 2017 races as well,” said Matt Kenseth, “I’ve been so fortunate to be able to reunite with DEWALT these past two seasons, and knowing that we’ll be together for even longer, is really fantastic news for all of us at JGR.”
Also in the release, DEWALT revealed that they will be the primary sponsor for six NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season with Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez driving their iconic yellow and Black colors.
“We’re thrilled to continue to work with Joe Gibbs Racing as NASCAR and DEWALT share a lot of commonalities,” said Scott Bannell, Vice President for Corporate Brand Marketing, Stanley Black & Decker. “Our DEWALT FLEXVOLT™ launch ties perfectly to the power and freedom exemplified by racing.”
