Esteban Gutierrez to debut with Ferrari at Barcelona test

In an announcement that came earlier today, Esteban Gutierrez will debut for Ferrari during Formula One’s in-season test at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya the week following the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Mexican was signed by Ferrari as a reserve driver for this season after a three year stint at Sauber, two in race seat.

Gutierrez will drive the SF15-T on the second day of testing, with Ferrari Academy driver Raffaele Marciello on track on Tuesday.

In an interview with the media, Gutierrez clearly understands the opportunity he has been given.

“You can imagine how special it is for me. This was not planned at the beginning of the year, and now I have been given the opportunity to drive the car. It will be a chance for me to give a different perspective and feedback, and also to make a correlation to the simulator.

“It will be an important day – one of the most special of my career. If it was not planned, and then they give you the chance, it’s a very positive indication. It means I’ve been doing a reasonable job.”
