Day by day more and more drivers are returning to the 2017 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda after spending 2016 in the same championship and Pabst Racing announced the latest driver to do so.
Brazillian Lucas Kohl will drive the No. 23 Pabst Racing entry alongside teammate Calvin Ming after spending 2016 with John Cummiskey Racing.
Kohl had a difficult 2016 season with three finishes below 20th out of the first four races. However, as the season went on, he became more comfortable with his car and managed to earn seven top 10 finishes en route to finishing 11th in points behind then teammate Ayla Agren.
“I feel really motivated; I learned a lot in my first year and it’s been proved that returning drivers tend to have more success in the series,” said Kohl. “I’m also really happy about being with Pabst Racing. They always do a great job and I’m convinced we can have a run for the championship.”
In 2016, Pabst Racing won the first two races of the championship at St. Petersburg with Jordan Lloyd and Yufeng Luo. After that weekend Luo, Lloyd and third driver Garth Rickards combined to score an additional three podiums.
