Newgarden Cleared to Practice at Road America

By Josh Farmer, IndyCar Reporter

Josef Newgarden has been cleared to practice in tomorrow’s opening session for this weekend’s Kohler Grand Prix at Road America.

The Ed Carpenter Racing driver will take part in the one hour, 15 minute session tomorrow and will then be evaluated by the INDYCAR medical staff to determine whether or not he will be cleared to race. If Newgarden is not cleared to race, ECR has driver JR Hildebrand on standby if needed to drive to No. 21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet.

Newgarden suffered a fractured right clavicle and a broken hand in an accident with Conor Daly on lap 42 during the suspended Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway on June 12. USA Today reported that Newgarden had surgery to insert a plate and two screws into his broken clavicle.

Newgarden sits fourth in the Verizon IndyCar Series standings, 98 points behind points leader Simon Pagenaud.

Practice for the Kohler Grand Prix will begin tomorrow at Noon ET and will be aired live on the NBC Sports Network.
