Rahal Letterman Langian Racing has bolstered their Verizon IndyCar Series engineering program with the hiring of Indy-500 race winning engineer Tom German.
German joins the team as an engineering consultant on a multi-year contract after spending the 2016 season with Andretti Autosport, where he helped guide Alexander Rossi to a win in the 100th Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Germain also served as the technical director of Team Penske prior to his tenure at Andretti Autosport. He helped guide Sam Hornish, Jr. and Gil de Ferran to their respective wins in the Indianapolis 500.
“We are very pleased to welcome Tom to our team.” said team co-owner Bobby Rahal. “His record speaks volumes and I have no doubt having Tom work in conjunction with Eddie Jones, Martin Pare, Mike Talbott and Alex Farina will generate much success for all of our drivers, now and in the future.”
RLL was the leading Honda squad in 2016 with driver Graham Rahal finishing fifth in the final standings on the heels of a win at Texas and four podiums. Along with the experience of Jones, Pare, Talbott and Farina, German completes a formidable engineering squad heading into the 2017 season.
“I have known Mr. Rahal for a number of years and am impressed with his ability to attract and retain quality people,” said Tom German. “This vision is yielding results; Graham and the team have led the Honda contingent for the past two seasons and established themselves as championship contenders. I appreciate the opportunity to join the team.”
