Harvick Clears The Air About SHR Extension

By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service CONCORD, N.C. – After announcing a multiyear extension to drive for Stewart-Haas Racing, 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick used much of his media session on Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway to set the record straight about rumors that had run amok since the announcement earlier this season that SHR would switch from Chevrolet to Ford in 2017. Harvick said there wasn’t a shred of truth to reports he had been contacted by Hendrick Motorsports to replace Kasey Kahne in the No.Read More

By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor It doesn’t seem like it was all that long ago, when a fresh faced youngster named Trevor Bayne rose to occasion on NASCAR’s largest stage. Bayne won the Daytona 500, in just his second-ever start in the premier racing series in the United States. The future looked bright, until it didn’t. That lone breakthrough moment was more than a half-decade ago. Bayne, once the sport’s darling at 20 years old, is now a 25-year old veteran. In between that day in February of 2011 and theRead More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor There’s something to be said about perseverance. It’s like having an ace up your sleeve in a high stakes poker tournament. Perseverance truly is the one intangible trait in Motorsports that can overcome older tires, a weaker car and even a horrible start to a season. What Matt Kenseth showed Sunday, in a dramatic win at Dover, was the epitome of perseverance. Heading into last Sunday, Kenseth had suffered through an abysmal start to the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup campaign. Making matters worse was theRead More

By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor We knew Tony Stewart wouldn’t run the full distance in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, but we also knew if Stewart was going to have any shot of making it back into the top-30 in the point standings — which is part of the requirement needed for him to be in the Chase for the Sprint Cup — then his relief driver — Ty Dillon — would have to have a good day. Dillon delivered in a big way for the three-time NASCAR Sprint CupRead More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor The career resurgence for Trevor Bayne continues in 2016, as he had an incredible race in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Things have been looking up for Bayne heading into this week. He had recorded top-20 finishes at Las Vegas and California. Then a couple of weeks later in Texas, Bayne led 12 laps and was on his way to a top-10 finish, until his pit strategy was foiled by an untimely caution. Bayne would finish 15th that night. Two weeks ago in Bristol,Read More
By Toby Christie, NASCAR Editor I think the career of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite restrictor plate car — Amelia — is officially over. The car, which was crashed hard in the season-opening Daytona 500, was repaired over the last few months by Earnhardt’s Hendrick Motorsports team and Sunday the car made it’s return to the track in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. However, on lap 50, Amelia did the same thing that it did in February. When Earnhardt was navigating traffic in front of and beside him, the car broke loose.Read More
