By Christopher DeHarde, Staff Writer NEWTON, Iowa — Ryan Hunter-Reay’s issues started early during Sunday’s Iowa Corn 300. The 2012 Verizon IndyCar Series champion had no radio to his pits so while the pit crew could communicate to Hunter-Reay, the reverse was not possible. Later on, Hunter-Reay had a major vibration on a particular set of tires which caused his last major issue of the day. “It was a high frequency vibration though the car and shortly after that I lost all the camber shims in the left rear,” said Hunter-Reay.

Each retirement resulted significant implications to not only each team, but for one driver, the Verizon IndyCar Series championship. Among the three retirements, A.J. Foyt Racing rookie and 2017 Iowa Indy Lights winner Matheus Leist’s was a cultivation of a sour weekend, beginning in Saturday’s opening practice, when his No. 4 ABC Supply Chevrolet had

That bond with the Andretti organization has been critical in his first full season of IndyCar competition. “From Day 1, they’ve been family. To have them a part of my journey has always been extremely special,” Veach told Motorsports Tribune. “I’ve been able to get that relationship

The Verizon IndyCar Series rookie was holding station in the midfield but ultimately mechanical difficulty brought the No. 26 Relay Group One Thousand One Honda to pit road. “We had something come loose on the steering rack,” said Veach. “Basically one of the lock nuts that keep the toe links kind of in their position in the steering rack came loose. The steering wheel just

The 2012 Verizon IndyCar Series Champion started third which became second after front row starter Will Power had a mechanical issue that dropped him through the field. Never letting the defending series champion out of sight, Hunter-Reay only ran below second place for two laps when Scott Dixon took the lead.

Herta charged to the front from third in the opening laps and held off a mid-race challenge from Andretti Autosport Patricio O’Ward to secure his fourth-consecutive Indy Lights victory for Andretti-Steinbrenner Racing. “This is the fourth race we’ve won in a row, so we obviously have a package working,” Herta said afterward. “It’s been fun. These cars race amazingly – we don’t have a lot of aero understeer, so you can stay behind a car closely,

The driver of the No. 28 DHL Honda finished fifth in the 248-lap event after starting in 10th place, but was hungry for more following a win in last weekend’s Detroit Grand Prix. “It’s a good consistent finish,” he said. “It was solid. Nothing better than that. Decent points but we’ve got to be better than that for sure.” The 2012

After finishing second in Saturday’s 75-lap doubleheader, the driver of the No. 28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport had the perfect mix of strategy and a hard-charging drive to snap a 42-race winless streak on Sunday in what he described as one of his finest performances. “To be that much faster than the rest of the field, it’s got to be one of my

One moment Alexander Rossi found himself in the lead, poised to go three-for-three in wins following poles in his young Verizon IndyCar Series career, fending off Andretti Autosport teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay and holding onto the series points lead in the process. The next moment he was in the Turn 3 runoff area, his race ruined. “Honestly I have no idea,” Rossi said when asked what happened. Rossi led a race-high 46 laps in the 70-lap Race 2 of the Chevrolet Detroit

It was a good result. But Andretti felt it could have been much more. “I guess you’ve gotta be happy, right?,” Andretti told Motorsports Tribune after the race. “But the frustrating thing is that we went backwards, and our teammates beat us again. “It’s really getting frustrating.” Andretti stole the show early on in the first of two
