In an extraordinary move of empathy, hard nosed McLaren-Honda boss Ron Dennis has reportedly blocked Red Bull Racing from securing Honda power units for 2016. Despite assurances from Christian Horner that, “quitting is not an option” Red Bull’s predicament looks even worse than the weather in Austin this weekend. After having the door shut in their face by Mercedes and then Ferrari, Ron Dennis may be putting the final nail in the coffin of F1’s youngest super power. Supplying another team with engines for next season could stretch issue plaguedRead More

US Grand Prix: Saturday Soaking

Currently the F1 community is in a holding pattern. Sitting, waiting on the deluge from Hurricane Patricia to either drown the Lone Star state or mercifully lessen just enough to squeak in qualifying. The prognosis isn’t encouraging. They just brought in the marshals and as I type we just received confirmation of yet another 30 minute rain delay. Everyone is making the best of it. The fans, God bless them are all still here, cheering, dancing, waving banners for the cameras. Two Sauber crew members rode up the pit laneRead More
Lewis Hamilton claimed top spot in final practice for the US Grand Prix with an impressive lap in extremely wet conditions to eclipse second-placed Sebastian Vettel by nine tenths of a second at a storm-lashed Circuit of the Americas. After Friday afternoon’s practice session was cancelled due to bad weather, the rain also threatened to disrupt Saturday’s running, but despite heavy rain the conditions were deemed driveable and FP3 went ahead as planned. With worse weather expected in the afternoon, the session was always going to be busy, with driversRead More
Nico Rosberg topped the opening practice session for the US Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver finished 1.2 seconds clear of Red Bull Racing’s Daniil Kvyat in damp conditions at the Circuit of the Americas. The Russian’s Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was third, while Drivers’ Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who can wrap up a third title this weekend, was fifth behind Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz. Bad weather had been forecast for the Austin area overnight and although the rain showers had abated by the start of the weekend’s opening 90-minuteRead More
Following a last lap collision of the Russian Grand Prix that saw Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas wreck while battling for a podium, the 2007 Formula One champion maintained his stance on the racing incident during a press conference leading up to the United States Grand Prix. “Well it hasn’t changed,” said Raikkonen. “Obviously there were some discussions and penalties given to me, but I would still do it tomorrow again, that doesn’t change the story. Unfortunately, we came together in the end and we both lost a bit, butRead More
Sauber reserve driver Rafaelle Marciello, is set to drive Felipe Nasr’s Sauber in FP1 in Austin on Friday in the build up to this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. The chance comes on the heels of rounds in the Sauber in FP1 at Malaysia, Spain and Britain. Marciello currently lies in 8th place in the GP2 standings with three podiums this season. He has been a member of Ferrari’s young driver Academy since 2010. This weekend’s round of the championship will be Sauber’s 400th since entering F1 in 1993. Image: FerrariRead More

Romain Grosjean: Big in America

Crash! Bang! Wallop! That was quite a big smash in Sochi – how are you feeling? I’m feeling pretty good, especially considering the force of the impact; I broke my seat! It was my biggest impact for quite a while and when I knew I was going to hit the wall I took my hands off the wheel, closed my eyes and braced myself. It’s a testament to all the safety inherent in the car and the other safety devices, so a little thank you to Bell, HANS, Enstone, the circuit, the FIA and the marshals and medical personnel. The chain of wins continues for Porsche as Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard claimed their second win in a row after a dramatic turn of fate at the Six Hours of COTA. The #17 was untouchable over the course of the first three hours of the race until Mark Webber overshot his pit stall just past the half way mark which cost the team seven seconds as Timo Bernhard climbed aboard. Bernhard initially picked up the pace and made up some of the lost time but with justRead More

DeltaWing takes first race lead of the season

Austin, Texas (September 19, 2015) – An alternate fuel strategy nearly paid major dividends for the Claro/TracFone DeltaWing Racing Cars team, as the DeltaWing Coupe saw its first race lead of the season on the way to a seventh-place finish in the Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas. Due to the extreme Texas heat (95 degrees F ambient temperature, with track temps approaching 120 degrees and 125 inside the car), team manager Tim Keene opted for two driver changes to keep Katherine Legge and Memo Rojas asRead More
