The three compounds selected are the orange-marked hard, white-marked medium and yellow-marked soft tires. It is the first time since Spain that the hard compound has been selected.  The 2016 rules state that drivers must have two sets on-hand, and are required to use at least one of them. A set of softs will be made available for the Q3 qualifying session, which will returned to PirelliRead More
By Joey Barnes, Editor-in-Chief Pirelli and the FIA have finally reached an agreement to keep the Italian tire manufacturer as Formula 1’s exclusive supplier until the end of the 2019 season. A deal had already been in place with Formula 1 Management for Pirelli to remain in the sport, but a testing plan needed to be agreed upon with the FIA prior to signing the contract. The agreement was to ensure that the Pirelli had enough track time to develop next year’s tires due to the wider specifications. The specificRead More
Lewis Hamilton beat Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by just six hundredths of a second to claim a fifth career Canadian Grand Prix pole position, putting him just one adrift of Michael Schumacher’s record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. After setting an impressive lap of 1:13.076 to top the list at the end of Q2, Hamilton ramped up the pace even further with his first run in Q3, lowering the benchmark to 1:12. 812. Rosberg followed almost immediately and while the German’s lap was similarly outstanding, he could not outpace hisRead More
Lewis Hamilton set the quickest time of the first practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix as running got underway at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Felipe Massa’s session ended early, however, after the Brazilian crashed heavily at the first corner, destroying the rear end of his Williams car. Massa’s crash came just before the half hour mark in the session, when on the approach to Turn One the back end of his car snapped out under braking and he spun and slid backwards into the barriers, sustaining a heavy impactRead More
By Adam Tate, Associate Editor After revealing the findings from Fernando Alonso’s massive crash in the season opening Australian Grand Prix, the FIA has announced its intention to introduce a system of biometric testing to further understand future crash data in order to make the sport safer. The findings show that when Alonso’s McLaren made intial contact with the Haas of Esteban Gutierrez he was traveling at 305 kph, and once the front suspension collapsed the ensuing impact with the wall hit a peak of 45G’s. The barrel rolling that followedRead More
By Adam Tate, Associate Editor The FIA is on the cusp of greenlighting the halo for F1 in 2017. The news comes on the heels of a meeting of the technical regulations working group which is in favor of Ferrari’s halo solution over Red Bull’s competing aeroscreen due to time constraints on the teams and the ease with which the halo can be added to the already well in progress 2017 designs. It is highly likely that the halo will be a stop-gap while an aeroscreen or canopy solution is workedRead More

Vettel and Raikkonen’s times were set on the soft Pirelli tyre, the softest of the three compounds on offer this weekend, with the Italian squad being the only ones to use that tyre during the 90-minute session. Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton set the pace in the early part of the session, using the medium compound tyre, but halfwayRead More
At the start Lotterer led the 33 car field but was soon coming under pressure from Mark Webber in the no1 Porsche 919 Hybrid.  It took the Australian six laps to find away around the second placed Oliver Jarvis in the no8 Audi and then he set about catching and passing the lead car with a daring move at Abbey after 28 minutes. Webber then built up a big lead before handing over to Brendon Hartley.  The Kiwi world champion then continued the good work of his Australian teammate butRead More
By Adam Tate, Managing Editor The letter worked! Just hours after all 11 teams unanimously signed a letter demanding the old qualifying system of 2006-2015 be reinstated, it has been reinstated!
