Pato O’Ward will see his Mazda Road to Indy career continue for at least one more round as Team Pelfrey confirmed him in Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires for spring training test at Homestead-Miami Speedway and the St. Petersburg season opener on March 10-12.
The 17-year-old Mexican raced for Team Pelfrey last season, finishing runner-up in the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires to then-teammate Aaron Telitz.
O’Ward has enjoyed phenomenal success over the off-season, having claimed a Rolex 24 at Daytona win in the PC class, which helped lead to a full-time drive with Performance Tech in IMSA.
However, O’Ward will add pilot of the No. 3 Topo Chico/Gap Guard Mazda to his now ramped up schedule.
“We are very excited to confirm Pato on the Indy Lights front,” stated Team Pelfrey IL team manager, Gary Neal. “Not only does this mean we have an exceptionally talented driver, but it’s also great to see the Team Pelfrey ladder system in full swing.
“We are looking forward to a strong outing at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.”
