HOMESTEAD, Fla. — For the past 15 years, Ford has sponsored the final NASCAR race weekend of the season. Over that span, there have been plenty of incredible moments at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. exploded onto the NASCAR scene with breakout performances in the Xfinity Series in 2011 and 2012. Between those two seasons, Stenhouse recorded an impressive eight victories, and in both years he came into Ford Championship Weekend with a chance to clinch a title.
“Ford Championship Weekend a lot of great memories come to mind of the great runs that we’ve had at Homestead,” said Stenhouse in a Team Ford press release. “When you turn around and see your crew guys, everyone at Ford, Jack, my whole family and friends, when you turn around and see how excited they are, that’s the best feeling. And to bring Mustang another championship, more wins throughout 2011 and 2012 and just continue that Ford dominance, but also the Mustang dominance in every racing series it has ever been in.”
In capturing back-to-back championships in the Xfinity Series, Stenhouse became the first Ford driver to ever accomplish that feat, and he is one of six drivers who have ever achieved consecutive titles in the series. Stenhouse is also in elite company as he is one of six drivers who have won a NASCAR championship while driving for Jack Roush.
