Austin Wayne Self, Niece Motorsports Team for 2018 Truck Season

One of the unknowns for the 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series can now be filled in. Austin Wayne Self will pilot the No. 45 Niece Motorsports entry full-time. Self has already competed in several races with Niece in the 2017 season.

Self has 37 starts in the Truck Series with one top-five and two top-10 finishes. He ran full-time in 2016 earning one top-10. Self earned a career-best finish of second in the 2017 season opener at Daytona International Speedway. He has three starts this year with Niece.

Self was humbled by the opportunity that he has,

“I am very humbled and thankful for this opportunity to drive for Niece Motorsports for 2018. I’ve been fortunate to run several races for the organization this season and I’m fired up to think what we accomplish in 23 races next season.”

To date, Niece Motorsports has 22 starts in the Truck Series. As an organization, their best finish is 14^th on three separate occasions. Twice that came with T.J. Bell at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway, and once with Jeffrey Abbey at Eldora Speedway. Niece has had seven different drivers behind the wheel, six this season.

Team owner Al Niece is proud with what the first-year team has been able to accomplish this year,

“I’m incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished this season. We have assembled a great team and accomplished a lot this year. At the beginning of the year we set out to run a few races, and ended up going to the track almost every weekend. We are thrilled to have Austin join the fold next year at Niece Motorsports and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish.”

Self also has 47 ARCA Racing Series starts with one victory at Winchester Speedway. He also earned 13 top-fives, and 31 top-10s in the series. In the two seasons that Self competed for the ARCA Championship, he finished sixth and second in points. The 21-year-old from Austin, TX also has four starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series with one top-10.

A crew chief and sponsors will be announced later. For now, Self and Niece will prepare for their first full season together.
