By David Morgan, Associate Editor NEWTON, Iowa – Break out the brooms. For the second day in a row, Team Penske pilot Josef Newgarden dominated at Iowa Speedway to make a clean sweep of the HyVee INDYCAR Weekend and score his sixth career win at the 0.894-mile oval. After banking a win on Saturday, Newgarden picked right up where he left off on Sunday, powering his way forward from a seventh-place start to take over the lead with a bold two-for-one pass on teammates Will Power and Scott McLaughlin on LapRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor NEWTON, Iowa – Josef Newgarden is inevitable. After falling short in qualifying earlier in the day, the driver of the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet bided his time in the early going of Saturday’s Hy-Vee Homefront 250 at Iowa Speedway before taking over the lead just prior to the halfway mark and never looking back en route to his fifth win at the track. Newgarden rolled off from third place behind teammates Will Power and Scott McLaughlin, who looked to be the class of the fieldRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor NEWTON, Iowa – Team Penske is back at it again. Coming into the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Weekend at Iowa Speedway, it was expected that Team Penske would be the team to beat and they lived up to those expectations in qualifying as teammates Will Power and Scott McLaughlin locked out the front row for both races on the 0.894-mile oval. As the leader in all-time pole positions, Power only added to his legacy with his 69th and 70th career poles, respectively. With his double pole grab onRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor NEWTON, Iowa – It’s Josef Newgarden’s world, we’re just living in it. The driver of the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet has been the dominant force at Iowa Speedway for a number of years now and once again, the four-time winner at the 0.894-mile oval was at the top of the board when the checkered flag flew on Friday’s lone NTT IndyCar Series practice session for the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Weekend. Heading into the weekend, it’s been the consensus of the IndyCar paddock that Newgarden would onceRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor NEWTON, Iowa – You can’t say Conor Daly is lacking confidence heading into this weekend’s NTT IndyCar Series doubleheader at Iowa Speedway. Filling in for sidelined driver Simon Pagenaud in the Meyer-Shank Racing No. 60 Honda at the 0.894-mile oval, Daly is focused on getting the most out of the weekend in what could be a banner run for both him and the team. After finding himself on the outs with Ed Carpenter Racing just seven races into the 2023 season, Daly was thrust in theRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor Six to go. The countdown to the end of the regular season for the NASCAR Cup Series continues as the Tricky Triangle comes calling for Sunday’s running of the HighPoint.com 400 at Pocono Raceway. With only three turns, instead of the four turns at all other ovals on the circuit, Pocono is definitely one of the most unique tracks on the schedule. The three turns all have differing banking with Turn 1 and its 14-degree banking modeled after the now-defunct Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 and itsRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor Even a mid-pack starting position and a broken front wing couldn’t keep Alex Palou down Sunday in Toronto as he brought home a second-place finish. The current NTT IndyCar Series points leader started the 85-lap Honda Indy Toronto in 15th place after a stumble in the rain in qualifying a day ago, but as the race played out, he was back to his old tricks. It seemed as if the driver of the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was bound for another finish near theRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor New England here we come. A week removed from a thrilling rain-shortened event in Atlanta, the NASCAR Cup Series heads back to a flat oval this weekend for Sunday’s running of the Crayon 301, as the march to the end of the regular season continues on. First joining the Cup Series circuit in 1993, the 1.058-mile oval that has progressively banked turns from two to seven degrees is one of the more difficult tracks on the schedule as the flat nature of the track makes trackRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor CHICAGO – SVG. Three letters that say it all. Shane Van Gisbergen, a three-time V8 Supercars champion from New Zealand rolled into Chicago for his first NASCAR Cup Series start and took the field to school, capping off a strong weekend by capturing the victory in the inaugural Grant Park 220 on the Chicago Street Course. “You always dream of it,” Van Gisbergen said of the possibility of winning coming into the weekend. “Thank you so much to the Trackhouse team, Enhance Health, Project91. What anRead More
By David Morgan, Associate Editor Following his harrowing crash a day ago, Simon Pagenaud has been ruled out for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course following an evaluation with the NTT IndyCar Series medical team. With Pagenaud now on the sidelines, Meyer-Shank Racing has tabbed Conor Daly to fill in for the Frenchman in the 80-lap race on the 13-turn, a 2.258-mile road course. Daly ran the first seven races of the 2023 season with Ed Carpenter Racing before he and the team parted ways following the raceRead More
