By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer The Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway marks the ninth race of the 2017 season for the NASCAR Xfinity Series season. For Ben Kennedy, however, this marks his first race of the 2017 season. Kennedy will be behind the wheel of the No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet Camaro for Richard Childress Racing with Justin Alexander serving as his crew chief at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer The last time the NASCAR Xfinity Series visited Talladega Superspeedway, Elliott Sadler took home the victory in thrilling fashion. Sadler narrowly avoided spinning as contact between himself and Joey Logano set off a melee that took out several cars, including Logano, coming to the checkered flag. Logano and Sadler are the only former winners in the field for Saturday’s race. Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers in the field this weekend include Aric Almirola, Daniel Suarez, Erik Jones, Logano, Kasey Kahne, and Ty Dillon. NASCARRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer After finishing fourth in the 2017 Daytona 500, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season has been leaving a lot to desire for Aric Almirola. Since Daytona, Almirola has had only one Top 15 finish as the series entered Richmond International Raceway for the Toyota Owners 400. In the first practice, Almirola placed his No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion a disappointing 27th on the charts. Qualifying was not much better as Almirola missed moving on to round two, ending up 25th on the grid. InRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer The Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway was a mixed bag for the 2017 Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contenders in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. All of the rookies have had previous experience at Richmond in other NASCAR Series. Two of the ROTY contenders ran relatively well, others fell short. Daniel Suarez had the best starting position of the five rookies, placing his No. 19 ARRIS Toyota Camry 11th on the starting grid. Early in the final stage, Suarez nearly hitRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer There’s something about the number six for Darrell Wallace, Jr. Last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, Wallace missed a chance to tie a record for consecutive finishing positions. In five of the first six races this season, Wallace had finished in sixth and the driver looked to rebound at Richmond International Raceway after a crash at Bristol. In the first practice for the NASCAR Xfinity Series ToyotaCare 250, Wallace placed his No. 6 Mello Yello Ford Mustang 24th on the speed charts. He improved toRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer Last week’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway brought Darrell ‘Bubba’ Wallace Jr.’s streak of sixth place finishes in his No. 6 Ford Mustang to an abrupt end. Late in the race, he spun to avoid one accident and was nailed by the No. 0 of Garrett Smithley who had nowhere to go. As the NASCAR Xfinity Series moves on to Richmond International Raceway for the ToyotaCare 250, Wallace’s Roush-Fenway Racing Ford Mustang will have a new look. For the first time thisRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer  The last time the NASCAR Xfinity Series visited Richmond International Raceway, Kyle Busch took home the victory in dominant fashion, beating Erik Jones by 6.453 seconds. The last time a NASCAR Xfinity Series regular won at Richmond was Chase Elliott in the Fall race in 2015. There are no former winners in this weekend’s race, guaranteeing a different winner for the fifth Richmond race in a row. Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers in the field this weekend include Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suarez,Read More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer In the 2017 Daytona 500, D.J. Kennington and Gaunt Brothers Racing (GBR) made an impressive run before getting wiped out in ‘The Big One’ just passed the end of Stage 2. Now, both Kennington and GBR will team up once again for the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. The Daytona 500 marked the first-ever Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race for GBR. For Kennington, a native of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, his start also marked the first start in the Daytona 500 for a CanadianRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer After finishing ahead of fellow Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contenders at Texas Motor Speedway, Ty Dillon carried a little momentum into Bristol Motor Speedway. Weather was an issue throughout the weekend, forcing Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series qualifying to be canceled. As a result, Dillon started 24th on the grid, behind fellow rookies Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez. In the first practice for the Food City 500, Dillon placed his No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS 20th on the speed charts. He was 28thRead More
By Seth Eggert, NASCAR Writer Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the toughest short tracks on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule. For Quin Houff, the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 at Bristol was the perfect place to make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut. Houff has two wins in the CARS Super Late Model Tour and finished fourth in the championship points standings in 2015, his rookie season. He also participated in the 2016 Kulwicki Driver Development Program. In the first and only practice session of the weekend, Houff was 31st fastestRead More
