William Byron won’t be leaving Hendrick Motorsports any time soon.

On Friday, the team announced it had signed the 27-year-old driver to a contract extension to keep him behind the wheel of the No. 24 Chevrolet through the end of the 2029 season.

“We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team,” said Byron. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We’ve accomplished some great things that we’re really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I’m excited to go after them with this team and this organization.”

The Charlotte, North Carolina native first came on the scene in 2016, debuting full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports, where he won seven races before moving on to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a one-year stopover with JR Motorsports, banking four wins and the championship in 2017.

In 2018, Byron ascended to the NASCAR Cup Series and has been a perennial contender ever since, keeping the legacy of the No. 24 intact as the only other driver besides Hall of Famer and Hendrick vice chairman Jeff Gordon to win with that number.

Byron has scored 14 wins, including back-to-back wins in the Daytona 500 in 2024 and 2025, along with advancing to the Championship 4 in each of the last two seasons.

Currently, with 12 races completed in the 2025 Cup Series season, Byron sits second in the standings behind his Hendrick teammate Kyle Larson, having scored one win, five top-five finishes, seven top-10 finishes, and two poles.

“William is the real deal,” said Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick. “What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unrivaled work ethic. You see it in the great ones – the drivers who could get by on talent alone but choose to outwork everyone anyway. That’s William.

“On top of it all, he’s a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader. We’re proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more wins together.”

Next up for Byron and the No. 24 team will be a return to Byron’s home track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he will look to add a win in the Coca-Cola 600 to his growing resume.

The longest race of the Cup Series season is scheduled for 6:00 pm ET, streaming on Amazon Prime.
