Nico Rosberg laid down the Gauntlet at Barcelona today. With a time over 2 seconds faster than last year’s pole and over a second faster than Valtteri Bottas in the Williams, Mercedes finally showed its pace. Behind the two best teams of last year, Felipe Nasr put in more impressive times and laps for Sauber, with Vettel’s Ferrari right behind. McLaren-Honda finally had a good day with Button coming in 5th on the time sheets and racking up 101 laps. Nico Hulkenberg brought up the rear for Force India whoRead More
A dramatic pair of races today in bitterly cold conditions at Barber Motorsports Park saw young Frenchman Nico Jamin of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing edge Brazilian Victor Franzoni to the fifth annual Cooper Tires Winterfest title. American Jake Eidson also was in the thick of the action until his Pabst Racing entry was cruelly hobbled by a fuel pump failure while holding second place in the early stages of the final race.   The pre-season series was cut short by one race following the cancellation of yesterday’s trackRead More
Just as Team Pelfrey’s Jack Aitken predicted following the first two rounds of the Cooper Tires Winterfest at NOLA Motorsports Park last week, the outcome of the pre-season mini-series went all the way down to the wire. The first of three scheduled races at Barber Motorsports Park was cancelled yesterday due to inclement winter weather, but today’s action could hardly have been hotter. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The record will reflect that Joey Logano won Sunday’s 57th Daytona 500 under caution, when a multicar wreck on the backstretch forced NASCAR to wave the yellow flag as Logano led the field into the final corner on the second lap of a green-white-checkered-flag finish. But the notation of that final caution does no justice to the memory of a race that produced some of the most scintillating restrictor-plate racing in the history of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. From a restart on Lap 182 of a scheduledRead More
