For first time ever, Indy 500 will have presenting sponsor

Through all of the history and tradition that is the Indianapolis 500, the event has never carried a title or presenting sponsor, until now.

A deal has been reached with D-A Lubricants’ Penn Grade Motor Oil for three years worth $5 million total to become the presenting sponsor starting with the 100th Indy 500.

“This historic announcement is welcome news for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and generates even more momentum for the entire Verizon IndyCar Series,” Hulman & Company CEO Mark Miles said. “PennGrade Motor Oil, with its deep understanding of the heritage and tradition that fuels the Indy 500, is the perfect presenting sponsor for the world’s greatest race.”

Fittingly, D-A Lubricants is based in Lebanon, Indiana, roughly 30-miles from Indianapolis.

“We’re thrilled that PennGrade Motor Oil is joining us, not only for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 but for more Indy 500’s going forward,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles said. “My grandmother worked for D-A Lubricant so I’m well-versed in the company’s history and I know our fans will appreciate the Hoosier connection as well.”

D-A Lubricants had previously sponsored entries for “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” from 1955-1958, having a long absence from the sport until returning as an associate sponsor with Graham Rahal last season. A relationship that will continue even as the company moves as presenting sponsor for the Indy 500.

The 100th Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil will take place on May 29, 2016 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
