United States Navy Lt. Jesse Iwuji will make his 1.5-mile debut in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Stratosphere 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lt. Iwuji will drive the No. 34 Fueltrax Chevrolet Silverado for Reaume Brothers Racing.
To date, Iwuji has just two starts on 1.5-mile tracks, both in the ARCA Menards Series. In both races, the U.S. Naval Academy Graduate failed to finish. At Charlotte Motor Speedway, he was swept up in an accident, while at Chicagoland Speedway, engine problems sidelined him after just eight laps.
Reaume Brothers Racing made it’s debut last year and has made 22 starts with seven different drivers in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. The organization’s best finish, sixth, came at in the 2019 season opener at Daytona International Speedway with co-owner Josh Reaume surviving the carnage. In seven starts on 1.5-mile tracks, the team has a best finish of 21st at both Kansas Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway.
Iwuji made his Truck Series debut with the Reaume Brothers last year at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. He started 31st and finished 25th. Iwuji made his oval debut a few weeks later at ISM Raceway with the Mittler Brothers, starting 32nd and finishing 27th.
Last year, Iwuji made history at Daytona when he became the first U.S. Naval Academy graduate to compete in ARCA competition. In total, he has six starts in the ARCA Menards Series with a best finish of 15th at Talladega Superspeedway.
To this day, Iwuji still serves his country as a member of the United States Naval Reserves.
Iwuji announced the news via his Instagram page.
