Rebellion Racing’s Nick Heidfeld will miss this weekend’s World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain due to an injury.
The former F1 driver took to social media, announcing on twitter that he will not be taking up his seat in the lead Rebellion R-One AER in the LMP1 privateer class as a result of damage to hand ligaments sustained in the second round of the Formula E Championship in Malaysia earlier this month.
Heidfeld was previously set to return to the Rebellion Racing line-up alongside Nicolas Prost and Mathias Beche after missing the last two events in Fuji and Shanghai due to family reasons.
Rebellion Racing did not replace the German in Japan or China, electing instead to go with a two driver strategy.
Heidfeld and Rebellion have enjoyed success together since the German joined the Swiss squad in 2012, including a win in the 2013 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and a class victory (fourth overall) in the 2014 running in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
