The 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season includes a number of firsts for rookie Kaz Grala. Grala earned his first career win at Daytona International Speedway as well as the pole position. His win and pole also made series history as he became the youngest pole sitter and race winner at Daytona.
Grala also made his first career start on a 1.5-mile track at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
This weekend, Grala will make his first start on Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile layout with a new sponsor onboard his GMS Racing No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado, Outlaw Fasteners.
Before Grala was old enough to compete in NASCAR and began to move up the racing ladder, he competed in the Summer Shootout Series on the quarter-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway as well as the Winter Heat Series on the Speedway’s infield road course. Grala won races and championships in both legend cars and bandoleros.
In 13 career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, Grala has scored one victory, one top five, five Top 10’s, and one pole position. He currently has two starts on 1.5-mile tracks, finishing 15th at Atlanta and eighth at Kansas Speedway.
Grala also has 38 NASCAR K&N Pro East Series starts, where he has 12 top fives and 24 Top 10’s. His best finish in the K&N Pro Series is second, at both Dover International Speedway and Virginia International Raceway.
“I’m very excited to have Outlaw Fasteners on board this weekend in Charlotte,” said Grala. “Their company is a great fit in the racing industry and I’m proud to be a part of their introduction to NASCAR. After the test at Charlotte a few weeks ago, I feel better about my first race there. Between that and an awesome new paint scheme, hopefully we can put on a good show for Outlaw Fasteners.”
David Sitton, a representative of Outlaw Fasteners’ distributor, also was excited about teaming with Grala and GMS Racing.
“We are excited to have teamed up with Kaz and the No. 33,” Sitton said. “The NCWTS is ideally aligned with our product, and we believe that both Kaz and Outlaw are emerging standouts in their respective fields. We look forward to the growth ahead for both Kaz and Outlaw Fasteners’ in NASCAR.”
Grala, GMS Racing, and Outlaw Fasteners will now look towards Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway where they hope to continue the team’s success this season.
