GMS Racing’s Sam Mayer will make his NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series debut at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The 16-year-old will drive the No. 21 ManpowerCroup Chevrolet Silverado in three races starting with the UNOH 200 at Bristol. Mayer will also compete at Martinsville Speedway and ISM Raceway. He will also compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Busch’s Beans 150 at the 0.500-mile track.
Mayer has one start at the ‘Last Great Colosseum’ in K&N Pro competition. He led every lap on route to his first career NASCAR victory after he started from the pole in the GMS Racing Chevrolet SS.
“I can’t believe I’m going to be making my first Truck Series start at Bristol next month, and I’m really excited ManpowerGroup will be on board with me for my three races this year,” Mayer explained. “To have a worldwide company support me this early in my career is pretty incredible.
“I led every lap and won the K&N race at Bristol in April, so I’m hoping we can have a really solid performance for them in the truck race next month, as well as at Martinsville and Phoenix.”
The Driver’s Edge Development competitor leads the points series in K&N East competition by six points over Derek Kraus. In seven races this season, Mayer has two victories, six top-five finishes, and two pole positions.
The Maury Gallagher-owned team has also had Mayer competing on short tracks in ARCA Menards Series competition. In six starts, he has five top-five finishes including a runner-up at Salem Speedway.
“ManpowerGroup has called Milwaukee home for over 70 years and we’re passionate about helping people achieve their potential and develop in their career, so that’s why we’re excited to support Wisconsin native Sam Mayer in his career journey,” said Michael Stull, Vice President of Manpower North America.
Bristol will mark the first time in 2019 that GMS Racing has fielded three trucks in a race since the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway last year. Mayer will have defending Truck Series Champion Brett Moffitt as well as 2018 ARCA Champion Sheldon Creed to lean on for advice.
Mayer’s next K&N Pro race is the Great Outdoors RV Superstore 100 at Watkins Glen International on Friday, August 2.
