Last year, Alon Day became the first Israeli-born driver to compete in both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Ashdod, Israel, native turned heads at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course when he ran well inside the Top 10 and top five for much of the race before getting spun on the final lap and finishing 13th.
Day, a regular in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, will now make his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut in the BK Racing No. 23 Earthwater Limited Toyota Camry at Sonoma Raceway. He will become both the first Israeli-born driver and the first driver to rise from the Whelen Euro Series to compete in NASCAR’s Premier Series.
In the past two years in the Whelen Euro Series, Day has finished second and third in points, while also collecting seven wins, including the most recent race in the Elite 1 Division at Brands Hatch Circuit in the United Kingdom.
Day also won the 2015 and 2016 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Most Popular Driver Awards.
Day has two NASCAR Xfinity Series and two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts. His best finish in the Xfinity Series is 13th, and in the Truck Series is 24th.
Day was a member of the 2016-2017 NASCAR Next Class and was named Israel’s Athlete of the Year for 2016 by Israel’s Ministry of Sports and Culture.
Day could not hold his excitement about this opportunity,
“I’m very excited to make my debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series next week in Sonoma. Being the first Israeli who is going to race in NASCAR’s highest Series is a dream come true. I must thank BK Racing, EarthWater Limited, as well as Hall of Famer Franco Harris, Super Bakery, and Silversport for giving me this awesome opportunity.”
BK Racing team owner Rob Devine thought Day deserves a shot,
“I like giving new drivers an opportunity, and Alon is a great road course driver. He has been successful in other series around the world and deserves a shot in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.”
The next NASCAR Whelen Euro Series race for Day is July 15, Autospeedway American Style at Raceway Venray in the Netherlands.
For now, Day will prepare to attempt to turn heads once again when he makes his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway.
