By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor For third-year Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott, Sonoma Raceway has been one of his worst tracks throughout his career, but on Sunday, that all changed with a fourth-place finish on the 12-turn, 1.990-mile road course. “It was a lot more fun, this trip out here, than it was the last two times,” Elliott said. “I made a lot of gains, personally, I think, for me at this track. It’s been one of my worst. To come here and have pace on Friday andRead More
By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor After getting to enjoy a much needed week off, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is back in business with a little road course racing. This week, the series makes the trek out to California wine country to take on the 1.990 mile Sonoma Raceway, a 12-turn technical road course situated about 30 miles north of San Francisco. This week’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 consists of 110 laps, which calculates out to 218.9 miles, or 350 kilometers. Over the years, the course at Sonoma Raceway has goneRead More
By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor Throughout his NASCAR career, Robby Gordon was never one to shy away from controversy and in June 2003 at Sonoma Raceway, his path to victory included a bit of controversy and a stellar battle with Jeff Gordon to see who would take home the trophy. Robby Gordon, who last won on the Cup Series circuit back in November 2001 at New Hampshire, was one of the most feared drivers when it came to road course racing as he always found himself in the mix for theRead More
By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor In following with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule that was released back in April, NASCAR unveiled the 2019 schedules for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series on Wednesday. While most of the schedule remains the same for next season, there are a couple of notable changes, mostly on the Truck Series side. The series had been finishing off their season with three straight tripleheaders at Texas, Phoenix, and Homestead, but starting next year, their November date at TexasRead More
By David Morgan, IndyCar Contributor FORT WORTH, Texas – Will Power had it all heading into Texas, with an Indianapolis 500 win in his pocket and the IndyCar Series points lead, but both his race and his spot atop the standings went up in sparks after a late race crash on the 1.5-mile oval. Starting the day up front along with his Team Penske teammates, Power parlayed a third-place start into a strong run in the race, consistently finding himself in the top-five for the majority of the event. Running sixthRead More
By David Morgan, IndyCar Contributor FORT WORTH, Texas – The duo of Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato may have started from different ends of the field in Saturday night’s Verizon IndyCar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, but by the end of the night both were celebrating a pair of top-10 finishes for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Rahal rolled off near the back of the field in 20th place and despite five different trips to pit road throughout the 248-lap event, he was able to lead five laps and crossed theRead More
By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor FORT WORTH, Texas – Hours after categorizing his Chevrolet Silverado as “bad fast”, Stewart Friesen had the win in Friday night’s PPG 400 at Texas within his sights, but would have to settle for second place after falling short on the final restart. Friesen had shown speed in both practice and qualifying ahead of the 400-kilometer race, taking the green flag from the pole and holding his own throughout the majority of the race. In the first two stages alone, the driver of the No. 52Read More

The three Team Penske Chevrolets were the only ones to crack 220 mph in qualifying as Newgarden laid down the fastest lap of the three at 23.480 seconds, 220.613 mph. Pagenaud’s fast lapRead More

By David Morgan, NASCAR Editor There are times when Cup Series regulars ruin the show by dropping down into the lower tiers, but sometimes they create a moment that is remembered for years to come. In this week’s “Throwback Thursday Theater”, we take a jump back to the 2006 Carfax 250 at Michigan that seemed to be another run of the mill race at the two-mile track until the action picked up with the closing laps and post-race activities. Through the first 95 laps, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards had beenRead More
