A perfectly timed pitstop before a full course caution put Josef Newgarden in position to become the first repeat winner of the Verizon IndyCar Series season. The race started in wet conditions and was dominated early by polesitter Will Power with teammate Simon Pagenaud holding steady in second place. The track dried out rather quickly and the field pitted for dry tires after just 11 laps of racing. Power re-assumed the lead once the queue cycled around but now had Pagenaud right on his tail and stalked his teammate overRead More
Will Power claimed his second pole in a row in a session that came down to the final minutes on the Streets of Toronto. Power’s Team Penske teammate Juan Pablo Montoya led much of the 10 minute session and looked solid to take his fifth pole of the season. As the clock ticked down, Simon Pagenaud rose to the occasion and bumped the Columbian off the top spot. Power then needed no further motivation and responded with a lap of 59.5920 to dispose of his teammate by nearly two tenthsRead More
Ryan Hunter-Reay
Ryan Hunter-Reay has built up a reputation of being one of the elite drivers in IndyCar, along with the leader of Andretti Autosport. With a season championship in 2012 and 11 wins since joining the team in 2010, his credentials speak for themselves. But the nine races complete this season, Hunter-Reay has founded himself mired down to 13th in the season standings. He has not finished on the podium once and has a best finish of 5th at Barber Motorsports Park. Andretti Autosport has been behind the eight ball aRead More
James Hinchcliffe described himself as the “luckiest unlucky guy” following his life threatening accident at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 18. Lucky as in the Holmatro Safety Team performed the savviest driver rescue since Alex Zanardi’s rescue in 2001 at the Eurospeedway Lausitz and saved his life on the track after he lost 14 pints of blood. Lucky as in that if the suspension piece that penetrated his leg would have been just five millimeters in a different direction, he may not be alive today. Ironically he is alsoRead More
Sebastian Saavedra will return to the #8 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet for this weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto, filling in for Sage Karam. The Columbian was not slated to return to the #8 car until the season finale at Sonoma Raceway, but a sponsorship opportunity with Automatic Fire Sprinklers has put Saavedra back in the ride. He has been recovering from a contusion to his right foot suffered during the Indianapolis 500 and will need to be evaluated by IndyCar’s medial team before he is cleared to drive. “I can’t waitRead More
Scott Dixon put on a cerebral performance during the final 148 laps of the Firestone 600 on his way to his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway. Dixon ran a steady first stint after starting in 7th place while Simon Pagneaud put on a clinic up front. The Frenchman led 59 of the race’s first 67 laps. He held the lead after the first pitstop while Tony Kanaan suddenly came to life and took the lead on lap 75 and began to pull away. The race’s only yellow flagRead More
Lewis Hamilton is now six for seven in poles this year after a dominating performance during Q3 for tomorrow’s Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton recovered from not being able to practice in FP3 to out qualify his Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team teammate Nico Rosberg by nearly three tenths and the Mercedes duo were the only two drivers to record laps below 1m15s. “The first lap was pretty good; it could have been better,” said Hamilton. “Then the next lap started off bad but then was good in the middle sectorRead More
Conor Daly has more than proved that he belongs in the Verizon IndyCar Series after just a few starts this season. He did a sufficient job at Long Beach subbing for Rocky Moran Jr. at Dale Coyne Racing, after getting the call while eating at the Honda Hospitality Tent.  Sam Schmidt then called him to race in a third car at the Indianapolis 500, but that ended before it started as the fuel cell leaked on the parade lap. Daly took it like a man, didn’t whine or complain andRead More
Will Power captured his 3rd consecutive pole at Texas Motor Speedway on a scorching hot Friday afternoon. Power was the first one to qualify and laid down the law early with a two lap average of 218:519 mph that was untouchable by the rest of the grid. Team Penske teammates Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves managed to land immediately behind their teammates while Simon Pagenaud patiently waited to fire the final bullet for Team Penske. Pagenaud went out 17th and nearly overthrew his teammate, but came up just .017Read More

Briscoe back at SPM for Texas

Ryan Briscoe will return to the cockpit of the #5 Arrow Electronics Honda for this weekend’s Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. Briscoe finished 12th at the Indianapolis 500 when he was initially tapped to fill in for the injured James Hinchcliffe. He has one win (2010) in eight starts at TMS and won the pole in 2009. Conor Daly filled in for SPM last weekend in Detroit and finished 6th in the second race of the weekend. It is known that Daly is likely to return for Toronto. BriscoeRead More
